Adrift in the world with a pen for a paddle – Seti Matua

My name is Seti Matua. I am the former Editor of, South Pacific Insider Magazine ( and PolyNation Magazine. My work has appeared on, and in Spasifik Magazine. Along with, I post information on my own sports blog, Context Sports, but sadly I have not updated that blog for some time now.

I have covered major events such as the USA Sevens, the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and college sporting events. My subjects have ranged from world heavyweight boxing contender and Olympic silver medalist David Tua of New Zealand, to renowned Hawaiian chef Sam Choy (Hawaii), New Zealand comedy duo The Laughing Samoans and Hawaiian singing sensation George Veikoso of Fijian descent.

My favorite subjects have been those that I’ve followed from high school, to college and professional sports such as NFL stars Troy Polamalu, Haloti Ngata, Jonathan Fanene, Ray Feinga, Rey Maualuga and Aaron Francisco. I’m also very involved in the Pacific Islander/Polynesian community so I enjoy writing about people who are making a difference. There’s nothing like a great, feel-good, success story that provides our children and youths with positive role models to emulate.

I’ve enjoyed highlighting the rising career’s of young athletes, musicians and artists over the years. I look forward to the opportunity of spotlighting the future stars of business, education, the arts and more in the years to come.

Though I was born and raised in the United States, I still consider Samoa my homeland. I currently reside in Lehi, Utah with my wife Jennifer and our five sons.
